After 60 years of decline, the beautiful Victorian gardens of Jeremiah and Jane Reeves are again springing to life. Mr. and Mrs. Reeves took great delight in their gardens and the Dover Historical Society takes equal pleasure in giving them a modern rebirth. In the past four years, the Society has begun to restore the gardens to their former glory. Using the "picturesque" school of Victorian horticulture as a guide, these gardens now showcase a much varied collection of plants. Starting with the Snowdrops and Witch Hazels of early March and ending with the Michaelmas Daisies and Autumn Crocus of late October, something is always in bloom. Flowering shrubs, ornamental vines and roses old and new, make these gardens unique and unforgettable. Many heirloom annuals such as Kiss-Me-Over-The-Garden Gate, Love-In-A-Puff and named Victorian selections of Coleus will give you a true feel for a golden era in American floriculture. A kitchen garden with "antique" varieties of vegetables and a large English perennial border are just some of the pleasures waiting for the visitor. Admission to the garden is free.
